I'm in Rods all the time and it's a great place to study and hang out with friends! I've also had the opportunity to have enlightening conversations with people of all different backgrounds and all walks of life. This includes people of differing political beliefs, sexualities, race, gender, etc. Take what you hear on the news with a grain of salt, because the reality that not all students who enjoy our coffee shop are Democrats or liberals! As a member of this club, I myself try to make everyone feel welcome.

Rod's has received a few negative reviews recently from people who have never stepped inside the building and have no semblance of understanding of the culture within. It is a place that has always delivered on its promise of inclusiveness. When I watched 10-15 protesters march into the coffee shop in a pointed attempt at causing controversy, that promise was upheld and the protesters, making people uncomfortable and causing a disturbance, were asked to leave.

Delicious coffee and tea, cheap prices. Very friendly staff to all, except those that want to take away rights and dignity from marginalized groups. Diverse opinions are welcome, so long as they are made in a respectful manner. Respect the staff respect the space and you won’t have any problems

I love Rods it’s a great place to meet friends to study and do homework and get COFFEE (the main form of sustenance for all college students ). But most all it’s a very welcome environment as someone who is a conservative I have never once felt ostracized here. I have made some great friends and memories here. Not only that but there’s always something awesome to do whether it’s a concert, some awesome karaoke, or an art day. I have never love a place more especially all the great history of the building itself adds the final touch to the worlds most glorious coffee house.

All of the one star review are from people who are either ignorant of what actually happened or ignorant to what persecution actually is. Rods is a great place. Good food. Good coffee. Good people. It is disgusting that they are receiving such a tremendous backlash from people who went in with the intention of being kicked out. I am a Republican and I have never felt unwelcome in this establishment. But if someone goes in with the purpose of being kicked out, of course they will be kicked out because all they need to do is become more and more disruptive until it happens. This is not persecution nor is it fascism. Even if Rods did not set itself up to be a safe space (which it does), the behavior of the College Republicans was inappropriate at best. This is what they were kicked out for, not for having different beliefs or wearing MAGA hats. Do not let this one incident discourage you from going to Rods for a cup of coffee even if you don't tow the standard "liberal" line.

Rod's is a great place! It is neither divisive nor hateful, it is a space in which all people can gather knowing that their humanity is respected. The only "restrictive" rule we have is no racism, sexism, or homophobia, which isn't really restrictive when you think about it. Rod's is not a political club, it doesn't seek to remove people based on their personal beliefs. All it is is a place where people know they will be treated with kindness and respect.
